Montreal Canadiens prospect is staying in Russia for at least one more year

Marco D’Amico: Gold Star Hockey Management Group confirmed that Montreal Canadiens prospect Alexander Zharovsky will stay in Russia for at least one more season.

The skilled forward will look to add some strength and development this offseason.

The Ottawa Senators aren’t closing the door on any of their UFAs

Claire Hanna: Ottawa Senators GM Steve Staios on their pending UFAs Claude Giroux, Lars Eller, Nick Jensen, Nick Cousins, and Dennis Gilbert:

“I have not closed the door on anyone. Spoke to each one of them. It’s fresh right now…think we all decided to take a little bit of time and reflect, including my conversation with G (Giroux).”

NHL Rumors: Red Wings, Capitals, and the Devils

The San Jose Sharks are in no rush with Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith, and they’ll need to rework their blue line

Sheng Peng of NBC Sports Bay Area: Both Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith are eligible to sign contract extensions after July 1st. Both players have said they love it in San Jose, with Celebrini adding, “I want to commit to this team and being here.” GM Mike Grier was cautious and said there isn’t a rush with both players, and it’s not the end of the world if they don’t get it done, as they both have a year left on their contract.

Forward Collin Graff is a pending RFA, with Grier wanting to get something done as he sees him as part of their future.

The Sharks currently only have to defensemen signed for next year, Dmitry Orlov and Sam Dickinson. Shakir Mukhamadullin in an RFA, with Mario Ferraro, Vincent Desharnais, John Klingberg, and Nick Leddy being UFAs.

The Sharks will obviously be looking to add to their blue line. Grier on what their blue line could use:

“It’s probably a little bit of everything,” Grier said. “I think we need to be able to move the puck a little bit better, we need to be harder around our net, and we need to be able to kill more plays in the D-zone.”

Ferraro wants to return, but there is likely an issue of his value. Grier said Ferrao will likely test free agency, and “then they’ll go from there.” It’s likely that Ferraro will get more on the open market.
