Taylor Hall eligible for an extension on July 1st
Mike Morreale of NHL.com: New Jersey Devils forward Taylor Hall has another season left on his deal and is eligible to sign a contract extension on July 1st.
Hall’s agent Darren Ferris was on Sirius/XM radio earlier last month with praise of what GM Ray Shero was doing for the organization and that they’ll likely sit down after the season to start talks on a potential extension.
“We will definitely talk after the season, and he is a priority,” Shero told NHL.com in December. “Our feelings haven’t changed about Taylor. He’s an incredible addition to our team and franchise. Like I said before, he has come in, bought in and transformed this franchise. This is a faster, younger and more exciting team in part because of Taylor. We made a trade for a player that became the MVP which is only the second time NHL history that has happened (Joe Thornton, San Jose Sharks). I think we have a lot of unfinished business and it’s been a great fit for both sides.”
Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Bob McKenzie on TSN 1040 noted that New Jersey Devils forward just had his knee scoped, so technically he might be able to return this year.
Hall is will be entering the final season of his contract next year and it could be an interesting offseason.
“The bigger issue obviously with Hall is is he heading into Erik Karlsson territory. He’s got one year left on his contract. He’s eligible for an extension. The team that has him, the New Jersey Devils – outside of that brief flurry last year – they don’t look all the world like a playoff team. They don’t look like they’re progressing as quickly as we thought they might be a year ago when Hall was an MVP candidate and an MVP guy.
“So that’s going to be a fascinating off-season story in how all of that unfolds.”
