Slim pickings on the forward market for the Senators
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion has been calling teams after forwards Colin White and Artem Anisimov went down with injuries.
Three league executives have noted the pickings are slim on the trade market.
Potential players that could be available include Kevin Fiala, Joel Eriksson Ek, and Ryan Donato (Minnesota Wild), Tyler Toffoli (LA Kings) and possibly some Pittsburgh Penguins forwards.
Toffoli is a pending UFA and will likely be a trade deadline chip.
The Senators have lots of draft picks, but Dorion won’t make a move for sake of making a move. Any acquisition would have to make sense for their long-term rebuild.
Blackhawks Smith hits the rumor mill
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Chicago Blackhawks center Zack Smith has had his name come up in the rumor mill. He’s dealt with some back issues and has only played in five games with limited ice time.
The trade market for him would be limited. He has another year left at $3.25 million
Perlini confirms he’d like a change of scenery
Tracey Myers of NHL.com: Forward Brendan Perlini confirmed that he asked the Chicago Blackhawks for a trade.
“Yeah, we’ve been exploring options,” Perlini said after practice on Friday. “I think a lot of that stuff is between myself and the team, myself and the agents. I let them handle it. I just continue to play.”
Perlini has been scratched for seven games this season.
