Bruce Garrioch: The Senators are interested in holding an outdoor game at TD Place and are wanting more details.
Bruce Garrioch in the Ottawa Citizen: Gary Bettman is saying that the Senators haven’t shown any interest in holding an outdoor game at any venue other than on Parliament hill – which it won’t be happening there.
“So we’re going to see if we want to play a game on Founders Day somewhere else, and by that I mean in a different city,” Bettman said in the report. “We haven’t made any decisions.”
On the Calgary Flames …
Chris Nichols of Fan Rag Sports: Elliotte Friedman was on NHL Network yesterday talking about Calgary Flames defenseman Dougie Hamilton and trade speculation.
“As for Dougie Hamilton, I’ve been having a bit of a back and forth kind of joking tug of war with the GM of the Flames, Brad Treliving, on this,” smiled Friedman. “We’ve kind of heard rumors about him since the draft, or just before the draft. And Treliving says, ‘No, we’re not shopping him.’
“Whatever the case is, every little while his name pops up. I think there are teams out there – there’s a lot of teams out there looking for defensemen. And Dougie Hamilton, even though he’s struggling right now – and I believe he was the least-used of Calgary’s defensemen the other night in their loss to the Rangers – we all know what his potential is. And I think there’s teams looking out there.”
Friedman thinks the Flames are looking to add a defenseman “with a bit of bite,” which could by why Hamilton’s name could be out there. Hamilton hasn’t played well, so his trade value is down. Hamilton’s name also came up in the rumor mill before the draft.
