NHL Rumors: P.K. Subban and the Montreal Canadiens
Louis Jean reports that Montreal Canadiens P.K. Subban's has come up

On P.K. Subban and the Montreal Canadiens …

  • TSNs Insider Trading: Pierre LeBrun: “I don’t think Marc Bergevin has any intention of trading P.K. Subban.”
  • Damien Cox: “Difference between chasing Stamkos and pursuing P.K. is Stamkos can be acquired for nothing. Leafs don’t have sufficient assets built up. Edmonton, on the other hand, has sufficient assets to acquire P.K. Subban. And should, if he’s really available. Which I rather doubt.”
  • Erik Erlendsson: “Montreal is not trading Subban, I’m aware of the report, but there’s now way it happens”
  • Jim Matheson: “There’s not a snowball’s chance in hell the Habs would trade Subban. He’s one of the NHL’s top half dozen D. True No. 1 D’s are gold.”
  • Conor McKenna: “Habs aren’t going to trade PK Subban. Much as my faith in Bergevin is shaken, I don’t think Molson would ultimately allow it if he tried.”

From Earlier today: NHL Rumors: Canadiens “Gauging the Market” on Subban and Others

  • Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960 on P.K. Subban. Friedman doesn’t think the Canadiens would trade Subban before his no-trade clause goes into effect.

“I think names get thrown around all the time. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going anywhere. You just like to know what a player’s value is.

“I will tell you this. Nobody has ever confirmed it, but before that contract got done – or around the time the contract got done… – I think the Canadiens thought about it. I’ve always believed the team was Philadelphia that had the biggest offer. I don’t know what that offer was.

“But at the end of the day, the Montreal Canadiens thought having P.K. Subban was better than whatever Philadelphia’s offer was. But I heard Philly’s was the best.”

  • Luke Fox of Sportsnet: Louis Jean on Max Pacioretty and P.K. Subban.

“There is no question that the captain, Max Pacioretty, and Subban are not best friends,” Jean told Hockey Central at Noon Friday. “He’s a guy that does rub some the wrong way.”

    P.K. Subban after practice today.

“I think I’m part of the answer, not the problem,” Subban told reporters after Friday’s practice.
