What could Matvei Michkov get on his next contract? The Flyers are banking cap space just in case
Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff: (mailbag) The Philadelphia Flyers GM Danny Briere has a history of doing bridge deals with players coming out of their entry-level deals – Tyson Foerster and Owen Tippett. Matvei Michkov has a higher ceiling than both those players, but he’s coming off a sophomore slump. If he bounces back and is in the 70 to a point a game range, he could get close to $10 million on either a bridge or long-term deal.
The Flyers are likely done for the offseason. Now, that doesn’t mean that Briere isn’t done looking for ways to improve his roster. They have just under $15 million in salary cap space and can be patient in case something big becomes available. They need to be prepared on the off-chance a Connor McDavid or an Auston Matthews becomes available.

All quiet on the Detroit Red Wings GM search, but it is still early
Max Bultman of The Athletic: Things appear to be quiet surrounding the Detroit Red Wings and their GM search. It’s still early in the process, despite being in the middle of the offseason. They are going to do a thorough search and not rush it.
An issue for the Wings is that Simon Edvinsson still needs a contract, and there is the Dylan Larkin situation. Steve Yzerman is still handling the day-to-day hockey ops role, but the next GM is the one they’d like to make the big decisions.
It’s possible the next GM has a ‘data’ background, with names like Sam Ventura (Sabres), Tyler Dellow (Hurricanes), and Brett Petterson (Panthers). Shawn Horcoff will be an internal candidate.

Alex DeBrincat has a year left on his contract and is extension eligible, but that would be up to the next GM as there is plenty of time to figure that situation out. Will the next GM want to persuade Larkin to remain, or will he want to move on?
