Quenneville may not be out of coaching for too long

Mike Johnston of Sportsnet: Joel Quenneville was recently fired by the Chicago Blackhawks, but it may not be that long before he’s behind the bench again.

“He’s certainly ready and willing to coach again as early as this season,” Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos said Saturday during the Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada. “He’s going to enjoy his family time but when teams are ready to talk he’s ready to listen.”

He averages $6 million on his current deal and he won’t be cheap for the team that hires him. Kypreos says a team may need to “add another three or possibly four years to a contract extension and that could run you anywhere between $15-20 million.”

Kings may not have trade assets for Panarin as the Bruins do

Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe: The Los Angeles Kings have a need to get younger and more offensive. Would think that they would be prime candidates to be in the bidding for Columbus Blue Jackets Artemi Panarin. Panarin is looking to end up in a big city and one with a ‘robust’ Russian community.

The Blue Jackets appear to be willing to wait until closer to the trade deadline. If the Blue Jackets were willing to move now, the Kings may not have the assets to trade for him. The Boston Bruins are a team that has the assets the Blue Jackets may want.

Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Brent Seabrook, and Duncan Keith all own no-trade clauses. Seabrook has five years left on his deal, the other three have four years left.

The New York Rangers would love to add someone like Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander. The same goes for the Minnesota Wild and Carolina Hurricanes.

The Bruins having someone like Nylander as their third line center would be nice given that both Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci are over 30 years old. It’s doubtful the Maple Leafs would trade him to the Bruins.

The Bruins trading for Panarin would likely mean that they would have to trade someone like Jake DeBrusk, Charlie McAvoy, or Brandon Carlo.
