Senators looking for a defenseman
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Senators: Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion has been looking for a defenseman for at least the past month. This was before they lost three defensemen, Cody Goloubef and Erik Brannstrom to injury and Nikita Zaitsev for personal reasons.
Leafs may let things play out for a bit
Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star: (mailbag) Would think the Toronto Maple Leafs won’t making any moves right away – waiting to see how things go under Sheldon Keefe‘s new systems.
When they do start looking at things, goaltending is one area they will look at. The Pittsburgh Penguins have a goaltender to move and maybe some forwards. Tristan Jarry carries a $675,000 and may cost the Leafs one of their fourth line players.
Barrie was close to asking for a trade
James (@Account4hockey): Elliotte Friedman was on WGR 550 radio on Thursday said that the Maple Leafs had lost their passion under Mike Babcock. Defenseman Tyson Barrie was close to asking for a trade.
Who could be looking to make a move
James (@Account4hockey): Friedman thinks the Maple Leafs are looking at potential backup goalie options, as well as some extra depth at center.
Friedman isn’t sure what they can do given their salary cap position. It would have to be money in, money out.
The Vancouver Canucks have been trying to trade one of their forwards for about a year but haven’t found anything they like.
James (@Account4hockey): Friedman said the Buffalo Sabres are looking to make a move and defenseman Marco Scandella‘s name is out there.
Teams know that the Sabres need to make a move, so GM Jason Botterill isn’t liking the offers he’s getting.
The Minnesota Wild are willing to do a lot of things.
The Los Angeles Kings have a lot of players available. Not defenseman Drew Doughty, forward Anze Kopitar or any of their young players, but basically everyone else is.
The Calgary Flames aren’t trading forward Johnny Gaudreau right now.
