NHL Rumors: Foo, Senators, Vegas and Penguins
Marc Methot and Sidney Crosby
On Spencer Foo …

Darren Dreger: Spencer Foo isn’t expected to make a decision on where to play next year until next Monday or Tuesday. The Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Vegas Golden Knights and Philadelphia Flyers.

Dave Isaac: Have been told that the Flyers aren’t in the mix for Foo anymore, though that can always change. Upfront the Flyers are crowded right now.

On the Ottawa Senators …

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Suns: Vegas set their own trade offer freeze on Monday night, but it’s believed Senators GM Pierre Dorion was still trying to find common ground on Tuesday to have the Golden Knights pass on selecting Marc Methot.

If no deal was reached, it’s open game on if Methot will be selected. The Senators want to have him back, but not at any cost. Dorion yesterday …

“We’ve got until (10 a.m.) tomorrow so there could still be a deal, but I think the ball is in (McPhee’s) court,” Dorion told reporters Tuesday in Las Vegas. “Whether we lose Marc Methot or anyone else, we know there will be a big loss for our organization, but we feel we have the depth and we can sustain any type of loss.”

Vegas could select Methot and then flip him. Among the teams looking for a defenseman include the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars.

On the Pittsbugh Penguins …

Jonathan Bombulie of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: (from last week) Penguins GM Jim Rutherford said that they will look to add a player or two that can help protect Sidney Crosby from the physical abuse he takes during a game.

Rutherford has raised his concerns before the Final, and it’s not just about Crosby.

“I wasn’t mad. And it’s not just about Sid,” Rutherford said. “It’s about all the top players in the league. You’ve got (Edmonton’s Connor) McDavid. You’ve got (Toronto’s Auston) Matthews. You’ve got all these young guys coming behind Sid.

“I just feel that we’re getting to a point, in some cases, where the hits are becoming more than hits. They’re more of an impact where it can end a player’s career. Basically, what I’m saying is, we need to be stricter on those calls.”

Rutherford stopped short of saying they’ll add a traditional enforcer.

“We are going to try to add a player or two that maybe we can have more protection in our lineup,” Rutherford said. “That’s not that easy because (coach Mike Sullivan) likes to roll four lines and you’ve got to plug a guy in that can play on a regular basis, but hopefully that’s what we can do.”
