NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks and Arizona Coyotes
Arizona Coyotes unlikely to trade Shane Doan
On the Vancouver Canucks …

TSN 1040: Canucks GM Jim Benning: “The picks we don’t have right now are picks 5 & 6 (rounds). So we’re working the phones, and if we can get more picks, we’d like to”

Vancouver Canucks: Benning: “I’m not done for the day. I have some calls to make and if deals make sense for us, we’re going to do them.”

Ben Kuzma: Benning on Jannik Hansen: “There’s a lot of interest.”

TSN 1040: Benning “We’ve had some calls on Ryan (Miller). We’ll see here. Them getting Bishop, I don’t know how many teams need good starting goalies”

On the Arizona Coyotes …

Brian Lawton: Radim Vrbata is due $250,000 per round in the playoffs and teams are cooling on him.

Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports: With Michael Stone and Martin Hanzal already traded, it could be a quiet deadline day for the Coyotes.

Multiple sources saying it’s unlikely that Shane Doan will be traded. Teams that showed interest in him are either fighting to get into the playoffs or are a contender where he could end up being a healthy scratch on occasion.

Doan isn’t interested in that and said after Sunday’s game that “nothing has really changed for me.”

“I’ve had discussions with Shane,” Coyotes General Manager John Chayka said. “He suggested to me that he signed here to be a Coyote and he’s only ever played here and that’s where he wants to finish his career.

“Having said that… there’s some bits of thought toward what would that better opportunity look like with a potential last year of his career, to take a run at a Stanley Cup. I think that’s natural for him to have some of those thoughts. He hasn’t come to me and said, ‘Look, I want to pursue other opportunities.’ And that’s where we’re at today.”

Teams might be interested Radim Vrbata, who has up to $1.25 million in bonuses that could carry over to next year’s cap. Vrbata said on the weekend that he hasn’t heard anything from GM John Chayka or his agent. He could re-sign with the Coyotes next year if moved at the deadline.

The Coyotes are not looking to trade forward Anthony Duclair or players that have years left on their contracts. Chayka is open to making more trades

“We’ve got a few days here,” he said. “I’m open to adding, subtracting, lateral moves, whatever to make our team better and continue to grow.”
