On the Vancouver Canucks and Buffalo Sabres…

TSN 1040: Bob McKenzie on the Canucks and their trade interest: “We know that Vancouver has expressed interest in Hanifin. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vancouver has at least expressed some interest in Ryan O’Reilly, out of Buffalo. I’m sure they’re probably looking at enough veteran players to get the market in a tizzy.”

Patrick Johnston of the Vancouver Province: Center Ryan O’Reilly is what the Canucks have been looking to add to their lineup. He can matchup against the other teams top line and can be useful on the power play.

Though should the Canucks be looking to trade for someone like O’Reilly at this point? Would it cost them the No. 7 pick?

The Canucks don’t have a lot of moveable assets. The Sabres could use someone like Chris Tanev to play with Rasmus Dahlin, but would they want to move O’Reilly for a defensive defenseman?

If the asking price for O’Reilly is the No. 7 pick, then the Canucks should say no.

On the Carolina Hurricanes, Los Angeles Kings, Florida Panthers, and Montreal Canadiens …

Chris Nichols of FRS Hockey: Elliotte Friedman was on the NHL yesterday and was talking about what players could be traded at the draft.

“I think Jeff Skinner will be one,” noted Friedman. “He has a no-move clause. He just changed agents. There’s a lot of intrigue going on there.”

Friedman adds that the Kings have shown interest in Skinner and that the Panthers are another team could be interested.

“I think the other one, I’m really curious to see what happens with Pacioretty in Montreal. I think there’s teams that looked at what Evander Kane just got and said, ‘We’re not in that market.’

There have been reports that the Canadiens and Pacioretty have talked about a contract extension, and believes they are true.

“But what I can’t get the sense of is that to extend Pacioretty in Montreal, or is that another team saying, ‘We’d like to make that as part of a deal, knowing if we make a trade and give up something we’re going to have some tenure with Pacioretty.’
