NHL Rumors VI: Red Wings, Leafs, Canadiens, Isles, Canucks, Oilers and Pens
  • Ansar Khan of MLive: The Red Wings top priority today is to find a top-four defenseman to replace Kyle Quincey, preferably a right handed shot and one that can play on the PP. They are on Matt Niskanen’s and Dan Boyle’s short list. They are out on Christian Ehrhoff. They’d like to sign Boyle to a two-year deal around $5-$5.5 million per season. If they can’t get either Boyle and Niskanen, they could go the trade route or could lower at cheaper UFAs in Anton Stralman, Tom Gilbert or Stephane Robidas. Boyle has received interest from The Leafs, Canadiens, Lightning and Rangers. Trade possibilities include Keith Yandle, Tyler Myers and Jeff Petry. They have discussed the possibility of Jarome Iginla, though not a priority. They might re-sign Dan Cleary and/or Daniel Alfredsson later this summer.
  • Josh Rimer: Some think that the Maple Leafs could trade Joffrey Lupul  today.
  • Darren Dreger: The Leafs are still hoping that Josh Gorges has a change of heart. If not, focus shifts to Dan Boyle or Stephane Robidas.
  • John Shannon: Told this morning that the chances of Brian Gionta re-siging with the Canadiens are fading.
  • Brett Cyrgalis: Dan Boyle turned down a two-year offer from the Islanders that was in the $4 to $4.5 million range per season. Told them he wanted to experience free agency.
  • Hope Smoke: Renaud Lavoie: “It’s crystal clear that Robidas wants to come back east & MON is among the teams after him”
  • Farhan Lalji: Told that the Canucks could be making a big push for Jarome Iginla today. He has a good relationship with Trevor Linden and Jim Benning.
  • Jim Matheson: Oilers looking for a cheap center for no more than two years that has some offensive skill. They do hope Leon Draisaitl can make the team but …
  • William DePaoli: If Derek MacKenzie hits the open market, the Penguins will likely be interested.
