Jason Strudwick: “So Pags (Dave Pagnotta) clear this up for me, are these these conversations happening because people are hearing that perhaps there’s opportunity for him to leave there, or is because they’ve seen other players leave, like a Quinn Hughes or (Mitch) Marner, etc, who or his brother, Matthew Tkachuk want out of Calgary, and they’ve seen there’s a blueprint, and they’re like, well, maybe this will happen again. So, which one do you see it coming from?”
Dave Pagnotta: “In all honesty, Struds, I think it’s both. I think there are teams that are going to like, are hearing this chatter, and that they’re going to say, ‘Well, okay, let’s have the conversation.’ Maybe there’s an avenue here, because remember when Matthew Tkachuk was traded. I’m just using his as an example. It’s not because it’s his brother, just convenient, but not because of that. But there was talk that, the Flames were going to look to move him, and that was denied. Then GM Brad Treliving, at the time, said, ‘No, it’s not going to happen at the end of the season.’ And then he was moved in August.

So, there are teams that are curious. There are teams that hear some chatter, and you brought up Quinn Hughes. I mean, that’s a decent enough example with respect to his future and the uncertainty there. We then find out via Jim Rutherford that it was last summer when they found out that he wasn’t going to sign an extension with the club, and that they tried to convince him otherwise.
It didn’t work, and then he was ultimately moved later on during the season. Does that apply here again? I don’t think that this is a scenario where he’s told the team he’s out by any stretch. I don’t want to put that narrative out there, but it certainly sounds like this is a combination of people and teams around the league believing that there’s going to be an avenue at some point to pursue him and others that are going well, if this is the case, we want to get our hat in the ring, and I think that will continue over the course of the summer.”
NHLRumors.com Note: The Ottawa Senators captain, Brady Tkachuk, addressed the trade rumours on Wednesday when he came back to the city. He took the time after a personal matter he had to deal with. The Senators’ captain is getting frustrated and annoyed about having to answer the same questions about his future.
While everyone will take him at his word that he doesn’t want to leave, and neither he nor the organization has said he wants out, there is growing talk, given the geopolitical climate. There is even talk about Auston Matthews leaving Toronto, even as he continues to show his loyalty there.
