Who might be interested in Trouba

Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun: If trading defenseman Jacob Trouba was an easy deal to make they likely would have done so by now.

Contract talks haven’t been easy in the past. The Jets would like to sign him to a long-term deal but he hasn’t shown that he’d like to remain with the Jets long-term.

The restricted free agent is a year away from unrestricted free agency and is arbitration eligible.

Jets defenseman Tyler Myers would love to re-sign but he may get more on the open market.

Contract talks with defenseman Ben Chiarot are ongoing but he may at least try out the interview phase.

Trouba stepped up his game this past season and his trade value may be at its peak. Would an acquiring team be able to sign him to an extension?

If a team is not able to sign him to a long-term extension, it would complicate any move. He could be looking for $7.5 to $8.5 million on a long-term deal.

Sure the Jets could likely get a nice package of assets if they moved him this offseason without an extension, but the return would be greater if he would sign one.

If the Jets were to move him leading up to the draft they may be looking for a defensive replacement, a second-line center or a 2019 first-round pick.

Potential teams that might be interested and what/who the Jets might be interested in.

Philadelphia Flyers – D Ivan Provorov, D Travis Sanheim, F Travis Konecny, C Nolan Patrick, 2019 first-round pick.

Buffalo Sabres – D Rasmus Ristolainen, 2019 first-round pick.

Pittsburgh Penguins – D Brian Dumoulin, D Olli Maatta, C Nick Bjugstad, 2019 first-round pick.

New York Rangers – D Brady Skjei, 2019 first round pick, C Brett Howden.

New Jersey Devils – D Damon Severson, 2019 second round pick.

What it might cost the Lightning to acquire Trouba

Joe Smith of The Athletic: The Tampa Bay Lightning are still looking to add to their blue line, especially on the right side.

Going after Erik Karlsson could be an option, but what about trading for Winnipeg Jets Jacob Trouba?

The Lightning would have to move some salary to fit in the $5.5 million and would likely want to sign him to an extension.

Smith and Murat Ates – The Athletic Winnipeg – on what it might cost to acquire him.

Ates – The feeling is that Trouba won’t sign a long-term deal with the Jets and will be traded by the draft.

The Lightning have their 2019 first-round pick. Would the Lightning include defensive prospect Cal Foote?

Smith – A first and Foote doesn’t seem that bad. If the Jets are looking for some help down the middle, they could look at Tyler Johnson or J.T. Miller.

Johnson has a full no-trade clause. Miller’s modified no-trade doesn’t kick in until July 1st. Yanni Gourde‘s contract hasn’t kicked in yet.

If Trouba doesn’t want to sign a long-term extension with the Lightning and only wants a one-year deal, the Lightning could also consider that option.
