Jacob Trouba where could he go for what?
Murat Ates of The Athletic: IF Jacob Trouba cannot get the dollars, then the chatter of the last few days asks what kind of return does Winnipeg get back? There is an ideal but soft deadline of sorts around June 21st or so.
It has been reiterated over and over again that Trouba has a tendency to want to play in the United States or maybe Toronto.
Trouba flourished last year with a 50 point season and one of his better defensive campaigns in several years. Also, Trouba remains only in his mid-20’s.
Detroit feels like a perceived front runner not an actual. They do not have the pieces it would seem. However, a few seconds and a player with experience is a decent conversation starter.
After that, Tampa Bay makes some sense especially if Anton Stralman and Dan Girardi do head elsewhere. Trouba may fetch a Tyler Johnson or solid middle-six forward and prospect potentially. Yanni Gourde and J.T. Miller may become available.
The New York Rangers could be a partner but not likely as the players Winnipeg are interested in will be heavily invested.
Philadelphia is another team with their 11th pick in play along with prospect or player.
Lastly, a Trouba for Rasmus Ristolainen swap has minimal chatter but that is it.
Mike McIntyre: Basically McIntyre reiterates that Trouba could indeed move before the NHL Draft in three weeks. It is interesting that the original Darren Dreger tweet was taken down. However, the clear message is that something should happen sooner rather than later.
Connor Hellebuyck must stay fresh
Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun: It is excellent that Laurent Brossoit signed a friendly two-year deal to help Connor Hellebuyck. However, it is imperative that Hellebuyck be able to retain a rhythm. Load management is big buzz words these days for goaltenders. Some younger goalies need to play a little more. Unfortunately, Brossoit signed just a one-year pact.
The expectation is that Brossoit could play as many as 30 games this year. Hellebuyck needs the rest and just is not getting it currently. Hellebuyck likely needs 55-60 starts or so to again, keep the rhythm going. Maybe internal competition helps.
