NHLPAs CBA deadline pushed back a day
Elliotte Friedman: Since the NHLPA’s deadline to re-open on the CBA falls on a Sunday, there is a provision that allows them to move the deadline until the next business day. Their decision now has a Monday deadline.
Kuznetsov suspended for three games
Tarik El-Bashir: The NHL suspended Washington Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov for three games without pay for inappropriate conduct. He won’t appeal the suspension.
Isabelle Khurshudyan: Kuznetsov’s salary cap hit won’t be applied to the Capitals cap number while he is suspended.
Wild extend defenseman Spurgeon
Michael Russo: The Minnesota Wild have signed defenseman Jared Spurgeon to a seven-year contract extension worth $53.025 – a $7.575 million salary cap hit.

“I wanted to stay here, and we want to win and that’s the main thing,” Spurgeon explained. “When Bill came in, he had a plan in place and what he said hit home for me.”
Laine training in Switzerland
Mike McIntyre: Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice on Patrik Laine training in Switzerland with SC Bern: “Really good. Absolutely. If you can get out on the ice with a pro team and there are men there that are going to train faster, I’m really happy to hear (that). Truly.”
A couple of injury notes
Montreal Canadiens: Coach Claude Julien said that defensemen Karl Alzner (groin) and Noah Juulsen (ill/headache) are day-to-day.
Mitchell Clinton: Jets coach Paul Maurice said that Andrew Copp has a groin injury and they are being cautious with him.
