There haven’t been many contract talks between the Minnesota Wild and Quinn Hughes this offseason
Dan Rosen of NHL.com: Quinn Hughes is on the NHL/NHLPA media tour, and was obviously asked about his contract situation with the Minnesota Wild.
“This is going to be done whenever I feel like it needs to be done. I don’t feel backed up against a wall. I’m very thoughtful. I want to make sure I’m taking my time on everything and make sure I’m making a decision that is going to be good for everyone. That’s kind of where my head has been at.
We haven’t had that many conversations just because of how I wanted my summer to go in terms of being fresh and resetting and enjoying and training and being around friends and family. As we get going here, I’m sure it’ll heat up, but I don’t feel backed up against a wall where I have to sign before camp.”

Hughes added that playing for the Wild and partnering with Brock Faber has been a great fit, and he can see himself staying. He’s not worried if talks go into the season. Quinn wouldn’t get into details about an extension.
“I’m not going to get into that,” he said. “It’s between me and Billy and ultimately we’ll figure it out and you guys will find out at that point.”
Michael Russo and Joe Smith of The Athletic: Quinn Hughes contract extension has obviously been the Minnesota Wild’s top priority. He’ll be getting a hefty raise from his $7.875 million cap hit. The Wild remain confident that they’ll be able to get him extended, but until a deal is signed, there will be some doubt.
Wild GM Bill Guerin likes to meet face-to-face. Last offseason, there weren’t a lot of talks with Kirill Kaprizov and his camp, but a deal got done before the start of the season. On Kaprizov’s previous deal, Guerin flew down to meet with Kaprizov and his agent, and a deal got done a day before training camp.
NHL Rumors: What Does Quinn Hughes Want?
Hughes’ sticking point is basically term. If he wants three years at $20 million, the Wild would likely do it. Three years would line up with his brother Jack, and speculation has him wanting short term. The Wild will push for eight.
