Rumors and Notes: Devils, Flames, Canucks, and Matthews
  • Tom Gulitti of The Record: Devils GM Ray Shero has spoken with Ryane Clowe a couple times over the past weeks and will talk again soon.

“We’ll be in touch maybe this weekend talking again and early next week at the latest,” Shero said. “They’ve been really good conversations and I’m just trying to find out where he is in terms of how he feels. It’s basically the doctor reports and how he feels. It’s really a doctor’s decision at some point and his decision and the doctor’s decision.

“But, I’ve been getting to know him and what he’s been going through over the last couple of years in particular.”

Bryce Salvador’s future is also still unknown – he’s at least a couple weeks away from determining if he’ll play or not.

  • Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun: Flames Dougie Hamilton realizes expectations will be high in Calgary, and he thinks he can handle it, as he handled things fine in Boston.

“I think the expectations are going to be higher but I think in Boston there’s a lot of scrutiny from fans and expectations for me when I came in, being a top-10 pick,” said Hamilton, who was introduced in person to the media at the Saddledome on Friday, along with free-agent acquisition Michael Frolik.

“I think I handled that fine and think it’ll be the same here, just have fun and play my game. You can’t really put too much pressure on yourself, better to just do your best and try to be as consistent as you can.

    “It’s interesting. I’m still 22 and there’s a long future ahead, so I think there’s a lot of development.”

  • News 1130 Sports: Hearing that Canucks 2014 first round draft pick Jared McCann was still feeling the effects of a head shot from the Canadian development camp earlier in the week. There has been no word how long he’ll be out.
  • Swiss Hockey News: Austin Matthews will be joining the ZSC Lions of the Swiss League.
