Rumors and Notes II: Captials, Sharks, Devils, and Coyotes
  • J.J. Regan of CSN Washington: Capitals GM Brian MacLellan on how they will replace Eric Fehr on their third line this season.

“It’s just a matter of which way we want to go, how we want to set our lineup up, if we want to be more offensive on the third line or if we want more of a shutdown type line. We have different players that could fulfill both those roles–a couple of defensive guys in Brooks Laich and Beagle and if we chose to go Burakovsky or Johansson it would be a more offensive line.”

Beagle may be better suited for the fourth line, but it’s not surprising that he could fill in on the third line. Burakovsky will be battling Johansson for the left wing slot on the second line. MacLellan does think that Burakovsky has skill to play center.

  • Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area: (mailbag) Kurz still thinks that the Sharks could use another defenseman, but gets the impression that it’s not going to happen. Pairing could look like Marc-Edouard Vlasic Justin Braun, Brent BurnsPaul Martin, Brenden DillonMicro Mueller/Matt Tennyson/Dylan DeMelo.
  • Rich Chere of NJ.com: If Devils Ryane Clowe returns from his concussion issues this season, it won’t be GM Ray Shero making the call.

“It won’t be my decision. It will be Ryane and the doctors who make that decision,” Shero told NJ Advance Media.

It’s likely that doctors will let Clowe know that it’s not worth the risk of another concussion. Shero spoke with Clowe last Friday, but will be keeping their conversation private.

  • Craig Morgan: Coyotes GM Don Maloney said that they don’t have any intentions of re-signing UFA goalie David Leggio. The Coyotes acquired Leggio from the Islanders at the trade deadline last season.
