Rumors and Video: Bruins – Soderberg, Hamilton and Eriksson
  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: The Bruins won’t be bringing Carl Soderberg back next season.

“The writing was on the wall for Carl Soderberg down the stretch of the regular season,” Joe Haggerty said. “On one hand, he priced himself out of Boston in a weak free agent class for the NHL this summer. He’s one of the best choices at center for other teams, and he’s going to get a much richer deal from another team. The Bruins also saw some flaws in his game.

“Make room for Ryan spooner. The Bruins will roll with Ryan Spooner as their third line center.”

  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Soderberg’s agent J.P. Barry said that the Bruins have “let us know that right now there’s no offer on Carl given the cap situation.” Soderberg will be able to get a bigger deal on the open market. All of the Bruins focus right now is on re-signing RFA Dougie Hamilton before July 1st. The Bruins won’t be able to go after any unrestricted free agents until they re-sign their RFA’s and move out a contract or two to create some cap flexibility.
  • Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: The threat of an offer sheet after July 1st is giving Bruins Dougie Hamilton some leverage. The Oilers would be one team willing to sacrifice the draft picks for Hamilton.Offers sheets between $5,478,986 and $7,305,316 annually would have to cost first-, second-, and third-round picks. Offer sheets between $7,305,316 and $9,131,645 annually would cost two firsts, one second-, and one third-round pick.

Depth down on the right wing could make Loui Eriksson a trade chip this offseason. He’ll turn 30-years old next month and will be a UFA after next season. He’s not in their long-term plans and they should look to get a good defenseman in return.

  • CSNNE: Bruins RFA Dougie Hamilton is going to be looking for a big payday. Would the Bruins consider trading him?

“Columbus is another team very interested in Dougie Hamilton,” Joe Haggerty said. “There’s a bunch of teams that would like a young, top pairing like Dougie Hamilton and would throw that money at him. My question is, why don’t you explore trades? Why don’t you look at other avenues? The Bruins can be in real trouble if they commit $6 or $7 million . . . and I haven’t seen enough to give him that type of money.

“I think a trade is a very interesting proposition.”
