- Scott Powers of ESPN Chicago: The Blackhawks have not asked Patrick Kane if he’d waive his no-movement clause according to a source that is close to Kane.
- Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times: Former Blackhawks goalie Antti Raanta on the report that he was rooting for the Blackhawks to lose in the first round so he could head by back to Finland.
“I have never said anything like that,” Raanta told the Sun-Times.
Raanta said that he was initially “frustrated” after losing backup role to Scott Darling and was called up to be their 3rd goalie while the AHL Rockford IceHogs were making a playoff push.
“It only took one day,” he said. “ then I came to Chicago and saw my teammates, and everybody was so happy to see me. So it was big help for the first couple days.”
“I’m not that kind of guy that I would say something like that, and hope my team to lose, even if I’m not playing goalie,” Raanta said.
- Juha Hiitela: The writer who interviewed Raanta said that he has the entire interview on tape. He added that he never declined the ESPN interview, that he was asleep when ESPN interviewed him – was the middle of the night in Finland.
- Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Senators Jared Cowen said that he has recovered from the surgery that repaired an abdominal tear in his oblique muscle. He had been bothered by it for almost two seasons.The Senators have received a lot of calls on Cowen, but the Senators aren’t ready to give up on his potential yet. Cowen has two years left on his contract at a $3.1 million cap hit, and the Sens want to see what they have in him.
- Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: If the Bruins traded Chris Kelly before the start of the season, it would be more of a salary dump than a hockey trade. Teams may even ask the Bruins to retain salary or take on a bad contract, which wouldn’t make sense for the Bruins considering his contract expires at the end of the season.
