Rumors: Brayden Schenn, Staal, Bruins, Petry, Brodie and Jets
  • The Fourth Period: The Flyers are looking to improve their roster and have made available Luke Schenn, Braydon Coburn and Nicklas Grossman. Sources saying the Flyers may also be making Brayden Schenn available. Flyers GM Ron Hextal is thought to be shopping Brayden and would like to bring in a top-six forward to play with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek. The Flyers would also like to strengthen their blueline.
  • David Pagnota: Brayden Schenn’s name is out there, but it doesn’t look like anything is imminent.
  • Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: The Hurricanes won’t be a playoff team this year or next, so it might be in the best interest of the Hurricanes and Eric Staal if he’s playing elsewhere. He has a salary cap hit of $8.25 million but salaies of $9.25 and $9.5 million remaining on his contract. The Bruins will go with Seth Griffith on the right wing with David Krejci and Milan Lucic for now, but they are looking to add a right handed winger, preferably with size. They have the Flyers 2nd round pick from the Johnny Boychuk trade. They’d likely be looking for someone who has an expiring contract due to having to re-sign Dougie Hamilton, Torey Krug and Reilly Smith.
  • David Staples: Can’t see where the Oilers are in a position to trade a defenseman Jeff Petry unless they can get another veteran defenseman and a veteran center.
  • Bob McKenzie: A contract extension for T.J. Brodie is expected to be finalized today. It is believed to be for five-years with a salary hit around $4.6 million. Chris Johnston: The market for good young defensemen appears to be set with contracts like Brodie ($4.65 million), Jonas Brodin ($4.167 million), Jake Gardiner ($4.05 million) and Jake Muzzin ($4 million).
  • David Pagnotta: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff : “Probably an outdoor game before one of the (other) major events.” (referring to All Star Game or a holding a draft)
