  • Vancouver Canucks: Canucks GM Jim Benning confirmed that they are looking for trade options for forward Chris Higgins.

“As part of our transition to a younger team, I can confirm we’re exploring trade options for Chris Higgins so we can create more roster space for our younger players to develop. Chris is a quality person who has been an important member of our team for nearly five seasons. Our focus has been on finding a positive new situation for him and we will continue to do so.”

  • Elliotte Friedman: Unusual that Vancouver sent out a release that they were exploring Chris Higgins trade options. Higgins won’t be in their lineup while they look for a trade partner. Have been told that he didn’t ask for a trade, but the Canucks are trying to trade him. Guess the Canucks figured the news would break when Higgins wasn’t practicing with the team, and figured the best strategy may be to get ahead of it.
  • The 32-year old Higgins carries a $2.5 million cap that expires after next season.
