Rumors: Five Teams That Should Make A Trade and the Market
Make a trade
  • Kevin Allen of USA Today: Allen looks at five teams who should make a trade before the trade deadline.
    1. Montreal Canadiens – GM Marc Bergevin has been looking for a scorer. They knew heading into the season that depth upfront was an issue. Andrew Ladd could be a nice fit as a rental.
    2. Tampa Bay LightningJonathan Drouin wants a trade. The Lightning are looking for a skilled, young defenseman. GM Steve Yzerman could be open to make any type of deal to get his team going.
    3. St. Louis Blues – They are one of the teams interested in Jonathan Drouin. They have depth on the blueline. Would they trade Kevin Shattenkirk for Drouin?
    4. New York Rangers – logical player to trade may be Keith Yandle, but at the same time, he seems like a player they shouldn’t trade. They should consider themselves contenders, and their defense has been an issue. It’s unlikely that they are going to re-sign him, and he could land them a nice return.
    5. Anaheim Ducks – the Ducks have struggled, but are still in the Pacific Division race. They need to improve their offense. Dustin Byfuglien’s shot and size would help.
  • Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960 on the trade front.

“I think there’s some kind of smaller moves that could be coming. Colorado is at 50 contracts. So they’re going to want to try to get down from there, if they can. You never want to be at the maximum. So that’s one issue.

“Columbus has nine defensemen now, I think, since they traded for Jones. You know they’re going to be looking to cut that.

“Buffalo has got a situation where they’re a little overloaded at the American Hockey League level. They’ve got some extra veterans in Rochester and some of those guys have to sit. And I think you could see maybe a small deal there, where maybe a lower-tier NHL player is dealt as part of that.”
