Rumors I: Caps, Canadiens, Penguins, Lightning, Leafs and Scouting
  • The Fourth Period: The Capitals may prefer adding a scorer that has some term left on his contract. They are also looking at rentals. It is unclear who they are targeting, but have been linked to Antoine Vermette. The Caps have to decide on Mike Green as well. He’s a pending UFA, but if they moved him, they would have to bring in someone to replace him.
  • The Fourth Period: The Canadiens are looking for a top-four defenseman and a top-six winger. RDS reported the Leafs were interested in Michael Bournival and Christian Thomas. The Canadiens have scouted the Leafs over the past month, with their assistant GMs taking in a few games. The Leafs have available up front Joffrey Lupul, Danial Winnik, Tyler Bozak and David Booth.
  • The Fourth Period: The Penguins are looking for a top-four defenseman. It is believed that they’ve been looking at Cody Franson, Zbynek Michalek and Andrej Sekera. They are also thought to be looking for a third line forward and have been linked to Daniel Winnik.
  • Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune: The Lightning have been looking for help on the blueline and possibly a top-six forward. They will be linked to every rental defenseman: Franson, Jeff Petry, Zbynek Michalek, Andrej Sekera and Marek Zidlicky.
  • Paul Hendrick: Leafs GM Dave Nonis indicated that Olli Jokinen will play for them, but could see him getting some interest from playoff teams.
  • Helene Elliott: Scouting the Ducks and Capitals: Blue Jackets, Bruins, Panthers, Coyuotes, Red WIngs, Stars, Penguins, Maple Leafs, Rangers, Lightning (2), Predators and Sabres.
  • Chris Kuc: Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin is listed on the seating chart for yesterday’s Blackhawks-Penguins game.
