Rumors I: Coaching – Oilers, Sharks, Wings and Sabres
  • Gene Principe: Expected that the Oilers name Todd McLellan as their new head coach at 2 pm MT.
  • Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area: Source saying that it was Mike Babcock who initiated the talks with the Sharks. Other potential candidates for the Sharks are Pete DeBoer, Trent Yawney, Dan Bylsma, Dave Lowry and Randy Carlyle. GM Doug Wilson now hopes to have a new coach in place within “the next few weeks” according to a source.
  • Darren Dreger: Believed that the Sharks want a second interview with Pete DeBoer. Bylsma, Carlyle and Lowry are in the mix.
  • Drew Sharp of the Detroit Free Press: From the reports that are out there, it doesn’t appear that Babcock attracted the interest that he might have thought. It might increase the odds that he remains with the Red Wings. Babcock said in his TSN interview that there wasn’t a “better job” than with the Wings, but would consider a “different job.”
  • John Vogl of the Buffalo News: League source saying that the Sabres had the best chance of making Babcock leave Detroit. Babcock plans on talking with Red Wings GM Ken Holland today. If the Sabres don’t land Babcock, remaining candidates include Luke Richardson, Dan Bylsma, and Pete DeBoer.
