- Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post: The Flyers won’t be offering training camp tryouts to Dustin Penner and Ryan Malone despite the rumors. When asked about the Penner rumors, GM Ron Hextall said “I haven’t heard that.”
- Tom Gulitti of the Record: The Devils have been talking to defenseman Tomas Kaberle about a possible camp tryout. Kaberle had four goals and 20 assists last year with Kladno.
“He has talked to us about a tryout,” Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said today of Kaberle. “That has not been officially confirmed yet, but he has talked to us.”
The Devils still haven’t come to terms with RFA Eric Gelinas.
“It’s always a concern when a player isn’t signed. We’d like to get it done as soon as possible. I think it’s in everybody’s best interest. There’s not much more I can say about it.”
The Devils still hope to bring back UFA Ryan Carter.
“We still have every interest in signing Ryan and at this point it’s status quo,” Lamoriello said.
- George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press: Red Wings GM Ken Holland said yesterday that they are still trying to get a deal done with RFA Danny DeKeyser and that a decision on whether Daniel Alfredsson will play this year likely won’t be made until just before September 18th.
“I haven’t talked to him in about a month,” Holland said. “He’s training hard. He’s training to play. He does want to play. When I last talked to him, he said he felt good — he wanted to feel great. He would love to play another year. He wants to play for us. He only wants to play if he feels he can contribute. The best test for him is to skate a couple weeks prior to training camp.
“I’ll talk to him next week. We’ll wait 10-12 days. Do we sign him to a contract? Does he just want to come to camp? I’m lobbing everything out there.”
