Rumors I: Franson and A Couple Leafs Related Videos
  • TSN 1050 radio: Pierre LeBrun: Maple Leafs Cody Franson could get a long-term deal in the $6 to $7 million range if he hit the open market. He was quick to reject a three-year, $4.5 million per year offer from the Leafs last week.
  • Chris Johnston of Sportsnet: The clock is ticking on the Maple Leafs core, but it’s unlikely that a bunch of blockbuster trades happens in the immediate future. Things take time in a salary cap world.
  • Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun: Franson is well aware of the trade speculation that surrounds him.

“It’s one of those things where I know it’s going to happen,” Franson said of the trade rumours. “I expected it. I can’t really control all that stuff. People are going to speculate or do whatever.

“You hear a bunch of stuff and you try to take it for what it’s worth. Until my phone rings telling me one thing or another, it’s all speculation.”

As a right-handed defenseman, Franson will be one of the more marketable assets as the deadline approaches.

  • The Fourth Period: Teams interested in Franson include the Kings, Red Wings, Sharks and Ducks.
