Rumors I: Senators, Devils, Flyers, and Penguins
  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: There are likely only two roster spots open for the Senators, one on the blueline to fill in for the injured Chris Phillips, and one up front to replace the departed Erik Condra. If they go with a 23 man roster (unsure of 22 or 23), they could go with 13 forwards, eight defense, and two goalies.

“There are four guys vying for two spots (on defence): Chris Wideman, Michael Kostka, Mikael Wikstrand and Freddy Claesson. Up front, you look at guys like Shane Prince and Matt Puempel, who are skilled guys if Dave feels that’s the type of players you need. If not, there’s guys like David Dziurzynski, who brings a more physical element. If not, there’s Eric O’Dell. These could be guys that could crack our lineup.”

  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Curtis Glencross will attend the Maple Leafs training camp on a PTO. The Senators are thought to have talked to him as well, but decided on giving their young players a shot at making the team.
  • Rich Chere of NJ.com: Devils GM Ray Shero are expected to invite one or two players to camp on a PTO.

“I think we’ll have one or two. Probably not on defense. Probably up front,” Shero told NJ Advance Media. “If there is someone we think can create competition or win a spot, we’ll address it over the next day or two. There are still some pretty decent players out there. So we’ll see.”

Shero on if any would be former Devils.

“No. We’re in conversation with a few guys,” Shero said. “You only have seven exhibition games. There’s got to be an opportunity or a role you see.”

  • Sam Carchidi: As of now, Flyers GM Ron Hextall said that no unsigned free agents will be attending their training camp.
  • Jason Mackey: Penguins GM Jim Rutherford said it’s “too early to tell” if they can see both Rob Scuderi and Sergei Gonchar in their top six.
  • Ken Campbell: Gary Bettman on ads on jerseys: “We won’t be the first (league) and you’d probably have to drag me kicking and screaming, which would take a lot of money.”
