Rumors I: Senators, Sharks and Flyers
  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Senators GM Bryan Murray has been busy trying to find out what he can get for either Robin Lehner or Craig Anderson. League sources are saying he wants a top-six forward and a pick. That can obviously change as the draft approaches if teams aren’t willing to match that price. It’s believed that six or seven teams have shown interest in Lehner – including the Sabres, Oilers and Flames. The Blues and Sharks have been looking to see what it might take for Anderson.

Lehner has struggled the past two seasons, and hasn’t played since mid-February.

The goalie market is also a little flooded with Martin Jones and Cam Talbot potentially available. Jones isn’t being shopped by the Kings, but teams are calling.

“Those guys were playing games and playing well,” said a league executive this week. “Talbot is a guy who can come in and give you games while Jones has the profile of a No. 1.”

The Senators have eight defensemen under contract and teams have been calling about their depth. Teams were looking at Eric Gryba at the trade deadline and Jared Cowen could be moved if the Senators want to move him.

  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: The Senators won’t be bring back Colin Greening next year. They’ve been trying to trade his two-years and $5.95 million since the end of the season. A couple teams have shown mild interest. GM Murray might have to package him with a goalie. It’s unlikely that they buy him out. The Sens might have to retain some salary in a trade. The Blues were one of the teams that had mild interest at the deadline.
  • Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area: (mailbag) There haven’t been any contract extension talks between the Sharks and pending UFA John Scott.
  • CSN Philly: Flyers GM Ron Hextall on Kimmo Timonen re-joining the Flyers in some capacity.

“I haven’t talked to him about it,” Hextall said. “That’s one of those things — I don’t believe you talk to players until they’re done. So once he gets back here, we’ll sit down and talk. And we’ll see which direction it goes.”
