Rumors II: Blue Jackets, Sharks, Matthews and Jagr
  • Elliotte Friedman: The Blue Jackets are looking for defensemen and hearing that Kerby Rychel’s name is out there. The Blue Jackets have lots of good, young forwards and Rychel has value.
  • Aaron Portzline: Blues Jackets Mike Reilly plans to become a free agent to see what’s out there, but said that he’ll still consider signing with the Blue Jackets.
  • Aaron Portzline: The Blue Jackets will name their new captain on Wednesday. They won’t name alternate captains until training camp. The Blue Jackets will be aggressive on the trade front this offseason. Don’t see any players who would be alternate captain candidates being moved, but you never know.
  • Aaron Portzline: 50-50 at best right now if the Blue Jackets bring Mark Letestu back next season. May depend on what other moves they make as there could be lots of shuffling.
  • Scott Bartlett: Finland’s Joonas Donskoi has received multiple NHL offers and a decision could be made soon. Elliotte Friedman: Hearing that the Sharks are a likely destination for Donskoi.
  • Damien Cox: Guessing that Auston Matthews choosing Zurich over the CHL won’t impact his status as the potential 2016 1st overall draft pick. Gare Joyce: A ploy to go to the WHL team that he prefers? Damien Cox: Everett (WHL) says no. There have been no indications from Matthews camp that this is the case. Gare Joyce: I don’t buy it for one second.
  • Zdenek Janda: Jaromir Jagr confirmed that he’s played his last game with the Czech national team.
