Rumors II: Brodeur and Johansen
  • Rich Chere of NJ.com: Status quo for Martin Brodeur.

“Got nothing new to report,” Brodeur texted on Monday. “Everything is well with me. Just getting ready in case a good opportunity comes along.”

It is possible that Brodeur could retire and take an off-ice job with the Devils.

“Yes. He knows that he will be a Devil for the rest of his life. He’s said it publicly and we’ve talked about it,” Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello confirmed. “What Marty has done, the type of personality he is and what his experience has been, it’s really a no-brainer. He’s a Devil.

“I think he’s just going to wait and see what transpires at different training camps and then he’ll make a decision whether he wants to go somewhere or whether he wants to retire. That’s my opinion, and I talk to Marty all the time.”

  • Ian McLaren: (translating an @antiechambre tweet) Vincent Damphousse is saying that the Canadiens are trying to trade Peter Budaj to make room for Martin Brodeur.
  • The Fourth Period: Damphousse (RDS) later added …

“Marc Bergervin has contacted (Brodeur’s agent) Pat Brisson to find out if Brodeur is available,” Damphousse said on RDS on Monday evening.

    Brodeur last Thursday:

“I would like to play one last season before retiring and I want to have fun doing it,” Brodeur said last week. “If the Canadiens made me an offer, it goes without saying that I would listen to what they have to offer me.”

The Leafs and Kings reached out to Brodeur earlier this offseason.

  • Chris Nichols on Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman on if a trade involving Ryan Johansen could happen if things don’t end well with the Blue Jackets.

“I think that it’s possible. I mean, it did happen with Turris. I think here’s the problem though, for Columbus. I’ve been asking a lot about Johansen. You know, people’s opinions. And there are guys out there who believe that Johansen would turn out to be the best player of his draft. And that may not happen, but that’s tough to trade.”

    ….

“Last year, there are four players aged 21 who scored 25 goals in the league. One was Johansen, one was Jaden Schwartz, one was Jeff Skinner, and one was Gabriel Landeskog. Those guys are hard to find. I think it’s difficult to make that trade and get value back.”
