Rumors II: Brodeur, Devils, Schwartz and Bruins
  • Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: Martin Brodeur’s agent, Pat Brisson, yesterday.

“We knew all along we would have to be patient,” Brodeur’s agent, Pat Brisson of CAA Sports, told ESPN.com on Thursday. “Marty is prepared to wait this out, knowing that at some point a team may very well develop a need. Marty is in a good place. It’s not like he’s phoning me every 10 minutes. He’s going to be patient.”

“There’s nothing going on right now when it comes to Montreal,” Brisson said.

The Devils are not pressing a trade, but they do have some extra forwards that could be traded.

“We’ll just wait and see, we certainly have some extra forwards,” Devils GM Lou Lamoriello told ESPN.com on Thursday. “We’ve made the decision to go with the young defensemen but we’ve got a couple of extra forwards. We’ll just listen, there’s nothing we have to do, we’re in a good position cap-wise, we’ll just wait and see what transpires.”

Blues RFA Jaden Schwartz doesnt’ have a lot of leverage. It’s thought that both sides are focusing on a two-year bridge deal. LeBrun thinks that Schwartz is looking for something around $3 million, with the Blues looking at closer to $2 million.

  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: (mailbag) No reason to buyout a player (in the offseason) like Johnny Boychuk or Chris Kelly, as that is not asset management. Kelly may have been the top candidate if they had went that route, but he brings leadership and is good on the draw and penalty killing. Trading away Boychuk would worse their Cup chances this year unless they could get value in return, like an affordable stud forward (Nail Yakupov, Tomas Jurco or Jakob Silfverberg). Ryan Spooner could be a trade chip now that the Bruins have signed Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci long-term.
