Rumors II: Bruins, Jets, Sharks, Devils and Flyers
  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: The Bruins vacant GM position is Don Sweeney’s to lose.

“You could throw huge names out there as candidates for this GM job, and there are some out there that are interesting, especially brilliant, young assistant GM minds like a guy like Julien BriseBois down in Tampa Bay,” Haggerty said. “But at the end of the day, I think this is Don Sweeney’s job to lose. I think he is the guy that will get the job. I think he was friends with Cam Neely. He played with Cam Neely. He’s been in the organization for like 10 years. He knows all the players on the roster. He has a similar philosophy to Cam Neely.”

Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun: Drew Stafford and Michael Frolik are top the Jets players without a contract for next season. The Jets also have to look the idea of re-signing Dustin Byfuglien – do they sign him to big money and long-term or risk losing him after next season?

  • Elliotte Friedman: The Sharks have been given permission by the Maple Leafs to speak with former head coach Randy Carlyle.
  • Rich Chere of NJ.com: The Devils are expected to sign Miami University (Ohio) forward Blake Coleman soon.

“We want to sign him. It just hasn’t happened yet,” Lamoriello told NJ Advance Media. “He is a goal-scorer. He had really great numbers in the United States Hockey League (34 goals in 59 games for Indiana in 2010-11). He’s a little older than most college kids. He had a good year this year.”

  • Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: The Flyers will continue to attempt to trade Vincent Lecavalier. It’s possible that the Flyers trade Brayden Schenn, who had career high 47 points. The Flyers haven’t been able to figure out if he’s a left winger or center. 29-year old Chris VandeVelde and 27-year old Ryan White should be re-signed.
