Rumors II: Bruins, Penguins, Rangers, Wings, Leafs and Blues
  • Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald: The Bruins obviously need to make some cap room for RFAs Torey Krug and Reilly Smith. Marc Savard can’t go on the LTIR until the start of the season. If the young kids like David Pastrnak, Ryan Spooner and Alexander Kokhlachev have a really good camp, they could make a current bottom-six forward expendable. Chris Kelly and Adam McQuaid may become trade bait.

“There’s always going to be speculation,” said Kelly, who carries a $3 million salary cap for the upcoming season and the next one. “There’s been speculation my entire career. ‘Where are you going to play? Who are you going to play with? Are you going to be here? Are you not going to be here?’ You go crazy worrying about those things.”

McQuaid has a year left at $1.566 million on his deal. Both Kelly and McQuaid have histories with injuries, making it a little harder to trade them.

  • Joe Haggerty: Bruins forward Chris Kelly confirms that he has a modified no-trade clause that allows him to be traded to only eight teams. The Bruins haven’t approached him.
  • Will DePaoil of Inside Pittsburgh Sports: A source is saying that Penguins ownership have OK’d the idea of bringing Ryan Malone to training camp. He hasn’t been officially invited by the team, but owner Mario Lemieux is pushing the idea. The NHL would have to reinstate Malone first. Malone is expected to decide between the Penguins and Rangers.
  • Ansar Khan: Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said that Darren Helm will likely start on the wing with Pavel Datsyuk due to the amount of centers they have.
  • Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star: The Maple Leafs now have three right-handed shooting defenseman in Stephane Robidas, Roman Polak and Cody Franson. Dion Phaneuf had been playing on the right side, may now be moved to the left.
  • Lou Korac: Blues goalie Jake Allen believes that Brian Elliott deserves to come into training camp as the Blues No. 1 goalie.
