Rumors II: Hurricanes, Wings, Sabres, Stars, Caps, Oilers and Blues
  • Luke DeCock of the Raleigh News & Observer: The trading of Jay Harrison could be the first of many for the Hurricanes. Cam Ward’s improved play could have teams calling. DeCock wonders though if they would better off keeping him. Andrej Sekera and Jiri Tlusty could be moved for prospects or draft picks. Trading Eric Staal or Jeff Skinner would change the direction of the franchise.
  • Ansar Khan of MLive: (mailbag) the Red Wings are unlikely to make a deal anytime soon, but could be active before the trade deadline. There isn’t an urgency to make a trade. They will continue to look for right-handed defensemen. They asked about Oilers Jeff Petry in the summer, but the Oilers asked for Darren Helm in return. The Wings may revisit Petry closer to the deadline. Mike Green is another possibility.Khan thinks the asking price for Tyler Myers is too much and doesn’t see the Wings giving up the assets: Dylan Larkin, a young roster player and a first round draft pick.Jonathan Ericsson won’t be traded, and it’s unlikely that they’d move Kyle Quincey.
  • Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: (mailbag) On if the Stars would be interested in one of the Oilers young players.

I would think so. I’m a big fan of Jordan Eberle if they want to deal him. Jim Nill is a smart man. He has done all of his research on their players, and he will likely be available for discussions if they want to talk. Nill says he wants to be fair in every trade, but he also wants to make sure that he doesn’t make a bad trade for the Stars, so it would be an interesting discussion.

  • Mike Halford of Pro Hockey Talk: Halford thinks the Capitals should be interested in Coyotes center Antoine Vermette, as they could use someone behind Nicklas Backstrom.
  • David Pagnotta: The NHL will be meeting with Hockey Vision LV (Foley and Maloof group) this week to figure out a game plan for their ticket drive. There are lots of things to go over, but ticket packages will likely range in the one to five year range with an average ticket price of over $60.
