Rumors II: Penguins, Flyers and Canucks
  • Josh Yohe: Penguins Kris Letang confirmed that the Penguins were not going to allow him to play again this season regardless of how far they made it. On if he’s thought of retiring due to his concussions and stroke.

“No concern,” he said. “I’m on my way to coming back. I’m just going through the protocol. I’ll be back on the ice. I missed only a bunch of games once, when I got (a concussion) in Montreal (in 2011). I never missed time for a concussion after that. I’m not really scared.”

Pending UFA Christian Ehrhoff on the possibility of re-signing with the Penguins.

“There is definitely interest in coming back,” he said.

  • Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin take up over $18 million in combined salary cap space. Both have no-trade clauses and have said they want to remain in Pittsburgh.

“This is where I want to be,” Crosby said Sunday as players cleaned out their lockers at Consol Energy Center. “Like everyone, the expectations are high. They haven’t changed. This is where I want to be.

“Yeah, I like this city,” Malkin said. “I’d like (to) stay here. I have (a) house here. My parents like to stay here. We (won) one time. Me and Sid and (Marc-Andre Fleury) … I believe we can do it again.”

  • Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News: Dallas Eakins is the first coach tied to the Flyers according to a report on Hockey Night in Canada. GM Hextall has admitted that his coaching list may include a “hell of a lot” of candidates.
  • Ed Willis of the Vancouver Province: The Canucks will need to find out if young players like Jake Virtanen, Hunter Shinkaruk or any other prospects are NHL ready next year. The Canucks have to address their size and grit. There will be something seriously wrong if Bo Horvat isn’t their second line center and playing a significant role.
