Rumors II: Wild, Senators and the Goalie Market
  • Michael Russo of the Star Tribune: Devan Dubnyk will be able to speak with other teams in a week if he doesn’t come to terms with the Wild before then. There may not have been a lot of communication between the Wild and Dubnyk’s camp recently – unless something changed in the past couple days. Dubnyk is looking for a long-term deal at more than $5 million a season. The Matt Cooke’s buyout coming, the Wild will save $2 million in cap space, bringing their total up to $12 million.

The Sharks, Oilers, Sabres and possibly the Flames are looking for goalies. Sounding like the Sharks and Oilers are after Cam Talbot. Other goalies who could be available include Eddie Lack, Robin Lehner, Craig Anderson and Antti Raanta.

Free agent goalies include Kari Ramo, Antti Niemi, Jhonas Enroth and Michal Neuvirth.

Believe that Mike Reilly’s list is down to the Wild, Blackhawks, Kings and Penguins.

Jordan Leopold would like to re-sign with the Wild. The Wild liked what he brought them after they acquired him at the trade deadline. They are interested in re-signing him, but told him to be patient as they deal with a bunch of other things. Once they figure out their cap situation and roster spots, then they’ll circle back to him.

  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: The goalie market leading up to the draft is a little crowded with potential trade candidates in Cam Talbot, Martin Jones, and Senators Robin Lehner or Craig Anderson.

“The position we’re in here is: It appears there are a couple of other goaltenders on the market as well,” Murray said. “That’s what I’ve been told, read and I’ve gotta believe that’s the case.

“I think what’s happening at the moment is people are going team-to-team and have been seeing what the price is to get a goaltender. All I’ve said to each one of them is, ‘If you want the best one, you better call Ottawa because we have the best guy to trade’ and I sincerely believe that.”

The Oilers are thought to be the leading candidate for Lehner. It is doubtful they will be able to get a top-six forward in return, but could look to include Colin Greening or David Legwand in a deal to shed some salary.

“We’re talking about moving a player along with the goaltender.

“It’s not going to be, ‘Take this player and we’ll let you have him’ but we certainly have held talks in that vein,” Murray said.

GM Bryan Murray hasn’t lowered his asking price of a top-six forward and a draft pick.

“It’s like agents asking for a certain number of dollars, they’re not going to tell you or me if they’re willing to take less, so we’re going to get our asking price,” Murray added.
