Rumors II: Wings, Blues, Oilers, Stars, Sharks and Bruins
  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: It’s believed that Jakub Kindl would have been apart of Dion Phaneuf trade and that the Wings were insisting Stephen Weiss be included. The Leafs wanted a core player off the Red Wings roster to make it happen. The Blues will have decisions to make this offseason regarding T.J. Oshie and Patrik Berglund, both who have been talked about throughout the season. If the Blues don’t make it far in the playoffs, changes could be coming.

Some think the Oilers should have waited a little longer before trading Jeff Petry early in the morning.

There was mild interest in Shawn Horcoff.

The Sharks weren’t offering up much at the deadline. Sense is there will be big changes if they don’t make the playoffs (0-6-2 skid). GM Doug Wilson and coach Todd McLellan are on the hotseat. Some wanted to see Patrick Marleau or Joe Thornton get traded.

“Until that happens I’m not sure they’re going to have any success. You can’t change your room but not take out the biggest players,” said a league executive. “Moving one of those guys would signal a big change for them. They aren’t doing that. Instead, they dealt bit players.”

  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Bruins Dennis Seidenberg heard his name in the rumors as a potential trade target leading up to the deadline. He could have been used to help create some salary cap relief for the Bruins. He admitted to being uneasy during deadline day.

“No matter whether you get traded or not, it’s always a little nerve-wracking seeing all the guys getting traded,” said Seidenberg. “Every time your name is mentioned , you’re pissed and you’re wondering what the hell is going on. But I think everybody here is happy that the group is together, and we get to work now.

“Everybody thought about it, but you don’t really know what’s going to happen. You just wait and see, and then come to the rink the next morning, and see what happened. We have a veteran group here that can take care of themselves, and knows what to do. It’s up to us to pick it up, get into the playoffs, and get going.”

GM Peter Chiarelli did say that he entertained some trade that might have altered their core. There is still the possibility that the Bruins trade Seidenberg or Loui Eriksson this offseason to create some cap relief.
