Rumors III: Habs, Lupul, Staal, Bergenheim, Hejda and Bruins
  •  The Fourth Period: The Canadiens have been looking for a top-six winger that is under contract beyond this season. Among the players that the Canadiens are believed to be interested in is Maple Leafs Joffrey Lupul according to a source. The Panthers and Capitals may also be looking at Lupul. Lupul has three years left and a 14 team trade list. It’s not known who is on Lupul’s list. The Leafs are believed to be interested in Canadiens Christian Thomas, Michael Bournival and Lars Eller.
  • Andrew Walker: Have been told that the Maple Leafs are actively shopping Joffrey Lupul and it’s in their plans to trade him by next week.
  • Aaron WardJordan Staal has been reassured by the Hurricanes that the trade speculation is unfounded.
  • Jameson Olive of Fox Sports Florida: (mailbag) With Sean Bergenheim’s play of late (11 points in 17 games), it’s no longer a given that he’ll be traded. The Panthers are in the playoff hunt and he’d help them get into the playoffs for the sixth time in franchise history. If dealt, he’s worth a third or fourth round pick. Olive thinks he’ll stay.
  • Harvey Fialkov: Hearing that a Sean Bergenheim trade is getting closer. Three teams in the Western Conference are interested.
  • Mike Chambers: Avs pending UFA Jan Hejda would be a good depth acquisition for a playoff team. List as day-to-day at the moment with an injury.
  • CSNNE: Tony Amonte thinks the Bruins should be buyers and to go after a top-six forward.

“I still think they look for a top-six forward,” explained Amonte. “They’ve been talking about it all year. Can Pastrnak play up with Krejci and Lucic? Can he play the big minutes and can he play as hard as Claude Julien expects him to? I still think they look for a forward.”
