Rumors III: Stars, Rangers, Leafs and Canadiens
  • Jimmy Hascup of USA Today: Stars GM Jim Nill on their trade deadline approach hasn’t changed after Tyler Seguin’s injury.

“Not right now, no,” general manager Jim Nill told USA TODAY Sports. “We still have a couple weeks to go, and it’s going to depend where our team is at.”

“We have about eight or nine games before the deadline,” Nill said. “If we go 6-3 or 7-2, we’ll look at it a certain way; if we go, 2-6 or 2-7, then it’s going to be a different mindset. We’re in a battle here and we know it. We’re going to go game by game and win the games we’re supposed to win.”

Stars pending UFAs: Shawn Horcoff, Erik Cole, Patrick Eaves and Rich Peverley.

  • Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: Pending UFA Shawn Horcoff knows he could be trade target.

“It changes every game,” Stars general manager Jim Nill said of the trade deadline mind-set. “If you win, if someone else wins, it changes where you are. So you have to take all of that into consideration and do what’s best for the team.”

  • Larry Brooks of the NY Post: The Rangers primary need over a bottom-six forward is a left-handed defensive partner for Dan Boyle. They may not have the cap room and assets to do both. Sources have said the Rangers are looking at Hurricanes Andrej Sekera. The asking price is thought to be a first round pick and a prospect, which is too much for GM Glen Sather and any other GM. The Rangers should be fine with offering one of the second round picks (have the Lightning’s) and a prospect not named Anthony Duclair, Pavel Buchnevich or Brady Skjei. If the Hurricanes like John Moore, the Rangers could include him a deal. Sources said the Maple Leafs asked for a second round pick and a prospect from the Rangers last week for Mike Santorelli.
  • Jonas Siegel: Leafs Jonathan Bernier thinks all the trade talk is affecting them: “You can feel the pressure is just building and building…it’s getting to guys.”
  • Hope Smoke: Bob McKenzie: “Anything’s possible , but he hasn’t had the kind of year that would generate interest.”
  • Habs Links: Pierre LeBrun on TSN 690: “I think if Marc Bergevin has his way he’ll add both a forward and a defenseman at the deadline.”
  • Habs Links: LeBrun “The #Canadiens aren’t terribly interested in rentals.”
  • Tom Gulitti: Scouting the Devils-Sabres: Rangers and Capitals.
