Rumors V: Leafs, Ducks, Canucks, Hurricanes, Rangers and Lots More
  • Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: The Maple Leafs have let teams know that trade talk goes through Kyle Dubas.

The Maple Leafs have let teams know they will take back salary in a Phil Kessel trade, but there is a limit as to how much. It has to be less in both term and dollar amount to Kessel. The Leafs want prospects and picks but realize they can’t get that alone.Leafs AHL defenseman Andrew MacWilliam is one of the Marlies that is available for trade.

The Leafs and Jonathan Bernier continue to work on a new deal.

Wouldn’t be a surprise if the Wild and Flyers go after a goalie at the draft.

GMs are asking the Ducks about Frederik Andersen. The cost could be steep. Andersen and John Gibson are locked up for next year a good price.

Eddie Lack could help the Flames, Oilers or Sharks, but would the Canucks want to help out those teams? Friedman doesn’t think so.

Expanding on Newsday’s report of Kyle Okposo possibly being on the trade block.

There are a lot of prominent names getting thrown around/asked about. We throw around words like “shopped,” and “available,” but a fairer way of describing it might be “tested.” I think there’s a lot of that going on, with GMs discussing certain players (or asking about them), just to see what nibbles they get.

If the Avalanche were to be able to re-sign Ryan O’Reilly, would they have to move out another high-salaried player?

Two players getting some interest are Milan Lucic and Jeff Skinner. From one GM:

“If you’re not listening, you’re not doing your job.”

Skinner’s name is out there and he doesn’t have any no-trade protection. He carries a $5.75 million cap hit. Penguins GM Jim Rutherford has looked at Skinner at least once.

Another rumor involving the Hurricanes is that they may consider packing Alexander Semin with the 5th overall pick to get him off their books. History suggesting it’s unlikely.

Justin Williams and the Kings don’t appear to be finding much common ground.

Scottie Upshall may take a one-year deal with a contending team.

The Canadiens could look at Antoine Vermette.

Blackhawks Marcus Kruger may be more attainable through an offer sheet than Brandon Saad.

  • Darren Dreger: Expect Cam Talbot to get traded this week with the Sabres, Oilers, Sharks and Stars in the mix. His good contract for this year requires a high return.
  • Pierre LeBrun: Status quo with regards to the Wild and Devan Dubnyk contract talks. Expected to meet this week.
  • Elliotte Friedman: The Oilers are another team that has asked the Senators permission to speak with Paul MacLean.
