Could There be a Fit for the St. Louis Blue and San Jose Sharks with the No. 2 Pick?

The St. Louis Blues have three first-round draft picks and could be looking to move up ... Could they work out a deal with the San Jose Sharks for the No. 2?

The St. Louis Blues could be looking to move up in the draft. The San Jose Sharks may be willing to move the No. 2

Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic: The St. Louis Blues have three first-round picks this year, and 12 picks in total in the 2026 NHL draft. Scott Wheeler had the Blues’ prospect pool ranked 10th out of the 32, which makes one wonder if they’d consider trying to trade up in the first round? They are missing an elite prospect.

They hold the 11th and 15th picks, and wherever the Avs end up. They also have three third-round picks. Current GM Doug Armstrong said back in March that they would consider trading up if possible.

“Yes, we would — we can use the picks, we can use prospects, we can use players. We’ll give it our best chance. But you also have to have someone that wants to move out of that pick, and that’s where the fly in the ointment sometimes comes in.”

Does John Tortorella’s Run Alter the Vegas Golden Knights Plan for Next Season?

The San Jose Sharks hold the No. 2 pick in the draft, and GM Mike Grier said earlier this month that they are listening. Gavin McKenna and Ivar Stenberg are the top two prospects, according to Corey Pronman. The Blues have Stenberg’s older brother, Otto.

The 11th, 15th and Avs pick don’t hold the value of the No. 2 pick. The Sharks may be interested in a roster player like Jordan Kyrou over prospects like Adam Jiricek or Dalibor Dvorsky, according to Scott Wheeler.

Eric Stephens notes that it would take a lot to move the No. 2 pick. Colton Parayko is 33, so him and 11th pick for No. 2 may not work. Don’t see the Sharks wanting Kyrou or Pavel Buchnevich. With Michael Misa looking like he could be their long-term No. 2 center, Robert Thomas may not be a fit. If were Grier, he’d ask for Jimmy Snuggerud, though that likely wouldn’t go far. Maybe the No. 11, Adam Jiricek and a third-round pick for No. 2, but Grier would likely get better offers from elsewhere.

Rutherford doesn’t think Snuggerud or Jiricek should be part of the trade talks. The Blues could start with the No. 11 and 15 picks, and see what other pieces would be needed.

The Bruins Could Use a Simon Nemec, and Who Could Trade Their First-Round Pick(s)

It would take a lot for the Toronto Maple Leafs to move their first-overall pick. The Chicago Blackhawks at No. 4 wouldn’t move the pick if Stenberg is available. The Winnipeg Jets at No. 8 may want an established player like Kyrou or Parayko.
