Video and Notes : Leafs Draft Offer, Caps, Oilers and Seattle

The video shows that the Maple Leafs offered the No. 4 draft pick to the Blue Jackets for the 8th, 34th, 38th, and 58th, as long as Noah Hanifin wasn’t drafted by the Coyotes. The trade obviously didn’t happen and the Leafs selected Mitch Marner and the Blue Jackets selected Zack Werenski.

  • Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington: Capitals Nicklas Backstrom is recovering from his May 27th hip surgery back in Sweden. He is hoping to be in the lineup opening night.

“We will just have to wait and see how things go exactly,” Backstrom told Sverigesradio (translation here). “But of course I’m hoping that I will be ready for the start of the season.”

Backstrom is expected to center Alex Ovechkin and newly acquired T.J. Oshie.

  • David Staples: If the Oilers are not able to move Nikita Nikitin, they could lose Brandon Davidson to waivers.
  • Frank Seravalli: Latercomers to expansion “will not be considered,” if they didn’t file their application yesterday according to the league.
  • Frank Seravalli: Victor Coleman was leading a group for downtown Seattle who was hoping to “fast track” an application if he received the green light for a downtown arena.
