The Winnipeg Jets haven’t found a trade package they’ve liked enough to move Connor Hellebuyck. What would it take?
TSN: Martin Biron, when asked what it would take for the Winnipeg Jets to accept a trade offer for goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. His value may be less now than it would a couple of months ago.

Gino Reda: “With Marty Biron. Marty getting down to crunch time for Connor Hellebuck and the Winnipeg Jets. Missing camp and the preseason wouldn’t be a huge problem, but they need a deal before the start of the regular season. So here’s the question for you: What does that look like, Marty? Marty, what do you think it would take for the Jets to say, ‘Yes’ to a Hellebuyck offer?
Biron: “Well, obviously, at this point, I think that the price has gone down a little bit. Maybe a month and a half, two months ago, you would be able to shop with many teams, but right now there’s a limit, limited amount of teams, and it’s probably gone down.
Here’s what I think would get the deal done. And again, I mean, maybe the Winnipeg Jets and Kevin Cheveldayoff are saying, “No, this is not good enough. This is Connor Hellebuyck we’re talking about.’ But I think you need a first-round pick. I think you need a top-six forward, preferably a second-line center to play behind Scheifele, and you probably need a goalie in return. And if you don’t want a goalie in return, and you say we don’t need the goalie. They want to give us, maybe it’s another prospect. That’s three pieces.
Connor Hellebuyck and Dylan Larkin – Anything New to Learn?
Originally, I thought four to five pieces because Connor Hellebuyck is a Hart (trophy) winning goaltender in the National Hockey League. There’s not that many of them, right? You’re going to Dominik Hasek, to Carey Price, Jose Theodore that one season. But really, the big names win the Hart. They win the Vezina’s, and Connor Hellebuyck has done that.
So, but, now I’m down to three pieces. Let’s get a deal done by being able to get a first pick in next year’s draft. And maybe that’s not a top 15 or top 20. Maybe that’s later in the draft, but who cares? You get a first-rounder. You have a top-six. That’s what you need right now. Who knows? Maybe you take a goalie back. Maybe you take a prospect back. But that’s the third piece, and that’s where it’s starting to kind of fizzle down. You get the top two pieces, but whether you get in after that, that’s going to make the deal happen for Winnipeg.
