What’s going on with Zach Werenski and Kirill Marchenko?
Sportsnet: Frank Seravalli, when asked what is going on with Columbus Blues Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski.

Ken Reid: “Do you know what’s going on with Zach Werenski?”
Seravalli: “I do, to the best of my knowledge, very important to point out here that Zach Warenski has not requested a trade from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
However, what has become clear is that if the Blue Jackets were to ask the question as to whether or not Werenski wants to extend when he’s eligible one year from now, I’m told that Zach Werenski would be non-committal at this point.
And so the Jackets have a huge question to ask themselves, are we going to rip off the band aid now, and with the long list of suitors that would love to get in on Zach Werenski in this most crazy NHL offseason. Do we do that or do we try and improve our team in the here and now.

But this also comes at the same exact juncture for them, where apparently that’s a very similar answer coming from Kirill Marchenko. Which is why there has been much interest in both of those Blue Jackets players this week. Columbus at the center of a juicy summer.
George Malik: Elliotte Friedman said on the NHL Network that Zach Werenski hasn’t provided a list of teams he’d like to play for. The Dallas Stars and Philadelphia Flyers have interest.
- Anthony SanFilippo: “Yes, the Flyers are interested in Werenski. So are a dozen other teams. What could the Flyers offer? Hypothetically, let’s say Tippett, York and Toronto’s 1st rounder in 2027. Does that get it done? If Dallas, for example, is building an offer around, say, Thomas Harley. The answer is probably no.”
@Nylanderthews: Pierre LeBrun on Werenski: “The one Canadian team that the Team USA Olympic gold medal winner might consider, by the way, is the Toronto Maple Leafs.”
@Nylanderthews: LeBrun said that Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell has been telling teams early in these talks that he’s not interested in futures, he wants NHL players.
Pierre LeBrun: There will be at least a dozen teams that will inquire about Werenski. Early teams interested include Dallas, Carolina and Philadelphia.

Jeff Svoboda: GM Waddell said yesterday that he heard from Marchenko’s agent yesterday and that they hope to talk more next week. He saw the report and didn’t want to comment. Waddell will also be meeting with Werenski and agents after the draft.
