Around the Boards: Lecavalier to LA? Kane Hurt? Some players returning soon

  • Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Thinks the Los Angeles Kings are the best suitor for Vincent Lecavalier. He’d be an excellent compliment to Anze Kopitar, they have the cap space, and plenty of young players.
  • Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune: Hawks coach Joel Quenneville thinks that Patrick Kane may not miss any time. Kane banged his head off of the ice in the first period, and did not return.
  • Corey Masisak of the Washington Times: Michael Nylander has had some trouble getting a team in the KHL (or anywhere else in Europe and the NHL) too him, now finds himself on his way to Grand Rapids Michigan. He’ll suit up for the AHL club, collecting his $5.5 million salary ($4.875 cap hit). The Capitals will continue to pay his salary, but the cap number will come off the books.
  • Michael Obernauer of the NY Daily News: Brandon Dubinsky could return to the New York Rangers lineup tonight versus Atlanta. Since scoring ability is something the Rangers have lacked since he got hurt.
  • Stephen Harris of the Boston Herald: Milan Lucic could return to ice this week. He’s been out 3 weeks so far with a high ankle sprain.
  • Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News: After firing their coach, and going 2-10 in their last 12, and losing their #1 goalie, the Flyers are still in trouble. Rumors are starting to circulate that they are looking deal, but new coach, Peter laviolette doesn’t want that to happen yet.
