Morning Hits: Kings Not For Sale, Boyle, Bishop and the Trade Deadline

  • Jill Painter of the LA Daily News: The NY Post reported yesterday that sources (a banker) said that AEG was considering selling the Kings after the Stanley Cup Final. AEG later said that the Kings are not for sale.

“The unsubstantiated rumors printed in the New York Post earlier today about the potential sale of the Los Angeles Kings are false. So I’m clear, the Los Angeles Kings are not for sale, and there are no plans to sell the franchise today, tomorrow or anytime in the future.

“These rumors were started by anonymous sources seeking to create chaos and mischief. We remain solely focused on one goal, winning the Stanley Cup, and we will not be distracted by such irresponsible reports.”

  • Arthur Staple: Islanders GM Garth Snow said that they are not concerned about Lubomir Visnovsky: “If we sign Boyle, they’ll both be on the No. 1 PP. We think that’s a plus.”
  • Jason Gregor: Dan Boyle had a no-movement clause, so it could be likely that he signs a deal with them. The Islanders are trying to make sure the 1st round pick they have to send the Sabres isn’t in the top 10.
  • Joe Smith: It’s been six weeks since Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop had right wrist surgery. He said rehab is going well and that he should be  ready for the start of training camp.
  • Chris Johnston: “Trade deadline rentals are traditionally more bust than boom. But a guy who helps lift a contender like Gaborik is why GMs keep trying.” Andy Strickland: “Deadline acquisitions are criticized if the player doesn’t take off right away in regular season. Shouldn’t be judged until playoffs”
