News: Devils, Flyers, Flames and the Senators

  • Tom Gulitti of the Record: Scott Gomez will be attending the Devils training camp on a tryout.
  • Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post: Kimmo Timonen had his no-travel restrictions lifted a few ago and is traveling back to the U.S. to be looked at by doctors. Sean Couturier had offseason ankle surgery and is feeling good. He has been skating since July. Nicklas Grossmann and Anthony Stolarz both also had offseason surgery and will be ready for training camp.
  • Calgary Flames: The Flames have re-signed forward Lance Bouma.
  • Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen: The Senators signed both Robin Lehner and Craig Anderson to three year contracts this summer, and all Lehner is looking for is a fair chance.

“Craig is a very good goalie, but I just want a fair chance,” Lehner said Wednesday after visiting with hockey campers and signing several hundred autographs at the Bell Sensplex. “If I play good, I want to play. And if he plays good, he’s going to want to play.

“That’s what you want on a team. You want two goalies pushing each other. If there’s limited chance for one guy to play, he’s not going to do as good. That’s a little bit of what we wanted from our side. I think and I hope that’s what’s going to happen.”

Lehner wasn’t surprised or upset about Anderson’s extension.

“It doesn’t change my focus at all,” he said. “It’s good for the team. He’s a veteran on the team. He’s a good goalie and I still have lots to learn and I’m trying to get better.”
