2:03 PM: Mark Everson of the NY Post: The New Jersey Devils have the inside track to re-sign sniper Ilya Kovalchuk. One source said the contract could be for 7 years, $60 million. Kovalchuk agent, Jay Grossman, said a decision is expected today.
The $60 mill for 7 years would be an annual cap hit of about $8.57 million.
The same source that reported the Kovalchuk numbers, said the Islanders did not make a formal offer of 10 years and $100 million. Kovalchuk may have turned down a 4 years and $36 million from the Kings before they backed out of negotiations.
